Sangita: Crossing mile with bags of sand

Sangita: 14-year-old Sangita spent her childhood sand-mining and as domestic helper. Carrying half bag of sand from the riverbank all the way up to the construction site could merely earn her 30 Nepalese Rupees (equivalent to HK$3.9) each morning.

UNICEF supported “Out-of-School Class” teachers fetched Sangita at the riverbank, and brought her to the Class. Having learnt basic language and mathematics knowledge, as well as sewing skills, Sangita is now no longer goes sand-mining and works as domestic helper. She could earn a living by selling her handmade handicraft.
