About the Visit

UNICEF celebrated 40 years of work in Nepal in 2008. In the coming years, UNICEF programmes is focused on the poorest and most excluded. Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF Ambassador, Louis Koo and Young Envoy, Darryl Tse visited Kaski and Tanahu Districts of Nepal during the 7-day trip in this summer.

Kaski

Kaski is located in Nepal’s North Western Development Region. The district has a total population of 380,527, with 56,566 children aged under five. Due to the topography of the region, the hilly villages still lack basic services and are relatively deprived and under-developed.

Tanahun

Tanahun located right next to Kaski district. UNICEF has started programme interventions in Tanahun in 1999, and the situations have been improved since then. The district has a total population of 315,237 and under five children is 49,610. The totally literacy rate of the district is 71.27% (female 62.8% and male 80.9%). Tanahun has better education enrollment rate with 96% no gender parity. Also, out of the total population 79% have drinking water and 50 percent of household have toilet which include both temporary and permanent ones.
