The Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF would like to thank you for your support on behalf of the affected people in Gansu mudslide emergency, and are appealing for additional support to help rebuild the lives of the victims, especially vulnerable children, through donations.
The Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF promptly allocated HK$1 million for emergency relief right after the onset of landslides and mud-rock flows in Zhouqu of Gansu Province in China triggered by continuous and heavy rains. At the same time, numerous fundraising activities have been held including placement of donation boxes, charity sales and street fundraising.
UNICEF is committed to responding to the needs of the children and their family in this difficult time. The emergency assistance for Zhouqu immediately swung into action, despatching supplies worth approximately HK$1,560,000 in total, including maternal and child health and care equipment, cold chain equipment for vaccines and 5,000 student kits. Besides supporting the Government's immunisation campaign, 2 ambulances along with life-saving equipment, and more projects are helping tens of thousands in the devastated area.
