UNICEF Young Envoys Visit the Commissioner's Office of China's Foreign Ministry

14/10/2025

HONG KONG, 14 Oct 2025 – UNICEF Young Envoys recently visited the Commissioner's Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in Hong Kong (the Commissioner's Office). The visit featured speeches by Hua You, Deputy Commissioner of the Commissioner's Office of China's Foreign Ministry, and Judy Chen, Chairperson of Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK). Also in attendance were Lu Ke, Deputy Director of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Commissioner's Office; and Ivan Chu, Council Member of UNICEF HK.

Hua You, Deputy Commissioner, encouraged the Young Envoys to keep in mind President Xi Jinping’s high expectations for young people in Hong Kong and Macao - to strengthen their skills, embrace responsibility, and grow into outstanding individuals with a strong sense of national identity, affection for Hong Kong, and a global perspective. He also introduced the youth-related initiatives and the Hong Kong-related diplomatic work of the Commissioner’s Office.

Judy Chen, Chairperson of UNICEF HK, expressed her gratitude for the Commissioner’s Office long-standing support of UNICEF HK and encouraged the Young Envoys to cherish the opportunity to learn from this visit.

Aristo Sham, a UNICEF Team member and Hong Kong’s first-ever gold medallist at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, performed a piano piece in a feature video. The piece was co-created with UNICEF Young Envoys to advocate for education for a sustainable future.

The Young Envoys also shared reflections from their summer field trips to two countries and three cities—Suzhou, Hangzhou, and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). With the support of the Commissioner's Office, they visited the Chinese Embassy in Lao PDR, engaged with diplomats and presented their experiences and advocacy initiatives as Young Envoys.
