UNICEF HK thanks to all corporate partners’ support to earthquake relief work in Ya’an, Sichuan

2013-06-14

In view of the massive magnitude-7 earthquake struck in Sichuan Ya’an April this year, UNICEF immediately responded to the emergency relief. Heartfelt thanks to all the below corporate partners that have responded to our call and helped organise activities. Until July 2013, more than HK$10.9 million was raised to support UNICEF’s relief work in the affected areas.

1. Regal Hotels Group donated a total of HK$1 million to Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK) for supporting UNICEF’s relief and reconstruction work in affected areas. The proceeds were generated from the revenue of lunch and dinner buffets at coffee shops at five Regal Hotels in Hong Kong on 29 April 2013, together with hotel guests and associates’ donations collected from donation boxes placed at the hotels. To accelerate the support to UNICEF, the Group made a 1:1 matching donation to the proceeds of both buffet revenues and cash donations. 2. The Cathay Pacific Group raised a total of HK$2 million to UNICEF HK to support UNICEF’s relief efforts in Ya’an. The proceeds include contributions by Hong Kong and overseas staff between 29 April and 10 May 2013, together with dollar-for-dollar matching by the company. The funds also included donations collected from passengers on Cathay Pacific and Dragonair flights between 1 and 15 May 2013 through the “Change for Good” inflight fundraising programme. The 100% of the proceeds channelled directly to assist UNICEF to help affected children and their family in Ya’an.

Free network platforms and services were provided to UNICEF HK for organising the Campaign. Customers of the above mobile network operators sent a short blessing SMS to a designated number, then could make a donation to UNICEF HK by directly deducting HK$20 from the mobile account balance or stored-value card. All the proceeds went to support emergency relief of affected and families in Ya’an.
